baby knitting

What's this!? An update!? With actual knitting content!?

Amazing.

Yes, I have started some knitting for the baby. A mixture of feeling better plus not having much to do now that I'm not working plus wanting to do something to get ready for the baby has inspired me.

First off, here's the hat I knit a couple weeks ago. The one I just made up and ended up probably being too big for a newborn, but that the baby will definitely grow into. I just borrowed a baby bootee book from Rachel, so I will make some bootees to go with it soon. I might also make some matching mitts so he doesn't scratch himself, though I don't know how practical those are.

Then I went to the knitting store on Friday for the first time since February (!!!) and bought a couple of books and some yarn. The project I started on today is from Rowan Babies and is called Buster. And the baby in the picture is just too cute.

I'm using Rowan wool cotton for it (as the pattern calls for) but am using sliiiiightly different colors to make it a bit brighter. The yellowish-green will be the main color and the teal will be the stars and the sleeves. I'm hoping this will fit him around xmas time.

I think I'm going to like this knitting baby clothes thing. So much faster to actually complete a project!

The size of the projects and time to completion is definitely one of the highlights of baby knitting!
That sweater's going to be adorable.

You know, we were strolling through Target one day in the middle of Rinny's pregnancy... actually, early on before we knew the sex of the baby, and there were these learn how to knit and make baby clothes kits on clearance with instructional DVDs. Rinny didn't want to pass up learning about the fascinating world of knitting, nor the opportunity to make "cute pink outfits!" Two frustrating hours trying, she gave up. I decided to give it a shot and tried for a couple days, but I gave up as well. That instructional DVD sucked. :)

I'm sure if we had someone watch us while we attempted knitting, we would have been more successful.

And, oh yeah, this post totally screwed up your RSS feed for me. I have like 8 yarnaholik entries on my friends page, back-to-back. LJ's done that 2x to me this week with RSS feeds. I should let them know!

Hi, how are you? I found your blog in the Bay Area knitting blog ring. I'm writing an article about Jewish crafters (crochet, knit, sew, etc.) and was wondering if you know of any in the SF Bay Area? If so, please let me know how I can contact them.

Thanks,
Stacey

I love knitting for babies! They are so much fun, and they don't care what it looks like! They aren't picky like grown ups. :) That sweater is so cute, I'll have to make one too. :)
