we have walls again!

You would not believe what our kitchen has been through in the past few days. Friday it was just your normal kitchen. It went from that to trash heap to not having a wall to now having new windows and doors (and a wall again). I can't believe we've been doing this only for a few days. There's still so much left to do. I'll cut most of the pictures because there sure are a lot.

Here's a before shot.

Here's the lovely wallpaper and tile we found after tearing out the built-in.

No turning back now!

Aw, crap.

Out kitchen appears to have moved outside.

Now the outside is being torn up too!

No wall!! (This was the freakiest part, really.)

Ooh, new windows!

After that last picture, they also installed the new sliding doors. The window guy is coming back tomorrow to finish stucco-ing the outside of the house around the windows. Then Tim is going to start the electrical wiring this weekend. We got our new kitchen lights today.

While all this was happening, we also had an electrician come and wire some stuff for the living room. Can you believe the people here before us had no ceiling lights at all? It's pretty weird for a room with a vaulted ceiling so that any lamp light just kind of disappears into nothingness. Tim finished hooking up the lights tonight and is going to install the ceiling fan tomorrow. More pictures to come. So many more that I'm sure you'll get sick of them by the time this is all over.

Oh, one last picture for tonight. Take a look at our new cabinets!

And there are a whole lot more here if you want to see more.

Exciting stuff.

How awesome - but what chaos!

You are absolutely going to love your new kitchen! Did you guys purchase new appliances too?

The kitchen in our house was redone a year before we bought it, with beautiful custom maple cabinets. Too bad the homeowners took all the good new appliances with them!

I'm totally salivating for a gas stove ...

I'm so glad I read this post! It reminded me that we should do the new windows before we paint the kitchen. (Yes, that thought hadn't occured to me until just now.)

Love the new cabinets!

p.s.

I just realized how silly it was to ask if you were getting new appliances. If you are gutting a kitchen, it's not like you're going to put ratty old appliances back in!

duh. :)
